           Success in any business is often determined by the mindset of its leaders and team members. In my experience, two predominant mentalities govern the way agencies operate: Producer Mentality and Principal Mentality. Below I will attempt to describe these mentalities from their non-mature forms to their mature forms.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Producer Mentality: From Non-Mature to Mature
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
            
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Non-Mature Producer Mentality
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Quoting as a measure of success
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Constantly seeking prospects
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Striving for faster, cheaper, and easier solutions
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;li&gt;&#xD;

             Viewing any sale as a win, regardless of quality
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Mature Producer Mentality

      &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Qualifying prospects rigorously
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Saying no to less profitable opportunities, allowing for better opportunities
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Working with a select few clients, rather than the masses
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Prioritizing value over volume
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Becoming a specialist, rather than a generalist

           Mature Principal Mentality

             Customer retention as the primary goal
            &#xD;

             Intentional meetings and role-playing exercises

           Mature Agencies

             Establish clear differentiators

             Create a cohesive company culture that the whole team can describe in the same way

           Transforming your agency from a non-mature to a mature organization requires a shift in mindset, both in the Producer and Principal mentalities. By aligning your team and developing a clear mission and vision, you'll pave the way for sustainable growth and a strong connection with your community.

           When you close your eyes and dream for a moment what does your agency look like?

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           As you build your agency or business I think it is important to build it intentionally.  Build your agency or business to serve you and those who are important to you in a way that provides value.  Spending time upfront to envision the results of your work will significantly help you make decisions.  Next time you have to make a decision you can simply ask yourself, does the decision move me closer to my  dream or further away?

           What will you Do, Delegate, &amp;amp; Delete so you can focus on what is worth your Time/Energy/Talent? 
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
            Start with Delete: what areas are not creating value? Does not line up with what you are trying to accomplish?  Examples: products, people, locations, partners, habits, processes procedures, systems…
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Delegate - What are you doing that is not worth your time energy and talent but still lines up with what you are trying to accomplish? Who can be trained to do these things?  Examples: accounting, bookkeeping, sales, service, recruiting, leadership, Marketing, HR, Payroll…
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Do
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            - Now you have identified what needs to be deleted, who can take things off your plate that still aligns with your goals but not worth your time/energy/talent.  Now it's time to identify and put a plan in place to Do.  Be honest with yourself.  Up to you alone are you capable of these things?  In September of 2021 at Brainshare San-Antonio, TX Billy Williams of www.inspireanation.org spoke of three ways leaders should handle what they are responsible for:  Delegate, Automate, and have someone hold you accountable for the rest.  What can you automate?  Who can you hold you accountable to the rest?
